In this video, high school students and local government (Panchayat) members discuss their understanding of HIV stigma. The video illustrates the impact of ICRW’s stigma reduction guidelines, as participants candidly share their thoughts on how they might change their perception and behaviour towards those who are living with HIV.
Stigma is a powerful barrier to effective HIV prevention and treatment. In India, ICRW adapted and implemented a set of stigma reduction guidelines to work with members of communities such as those interviewed here. The aim of these activities is to reduce stigma and its negative impact on people’s access to HIV prevention and treatment, particularly with respect to high risk groups such as men who have sex with men and sex workers.
