Mapping alcohol availability in Tanzania, South Africa & India_26July2018_Final.pdf

This presentation was originally given by Gerry Mshana at the AIDS2018 conference. It provides an overview of STRIVE's research on alcohol in three countries:

  • Documenting the availability, pricing, packaging, advertisingand marketing of alcohol in Tanzania
  • Exploring youth perceptions of the availability, promotion, packaging and pricing of alcohol in South Africa
  • Exploring youth drinking patterns, norms and risky behaviors including sexual violence in India

The presentation includes policy recommendations as well as implications for HIV programmes, including the need to address alcohol use among youth to reduce the risk of HIV and reduce barriers to access to effective HIV prevention and treatment options.
