Recognized as a pioneer in preventative approaches to gender violence, Raising Voices is a results-oriented organization based in Kampala, Uganda. 

Raising Voices works to prevent violence against women and children. It addresses the root causes of violence such as traditional gender roles and the imbalance of power between women and men. In 2003, Raising Voices co-founded the Center for Domestic Violence Prevention (CEDOVIP) in Kampala.

SASA! The time to act is now

Together, Raising Voices and CEDOVIP are implementing SASA! in some areas of Kampala. 'Sasa' is a Kiswahili word that means 'now' - a reminder that now is the time to prevent violence against women and its connection to HIV/AIDS. 

SASA! encompasses a range of tools and activities:

• SASA! is a community-focused violence and HIV prevention programme in Kampala, Uganda.
• The SASA! Study is a cluster randomised controlled trial in collaboration with LSHTM. The study is designed to assess the impact of SASA! on attitudes towards gender roles and norms, levels of intimate-partner violence (IPV), HIV-related behaviours and community responses to violence against women.
• The SASA! Activist Kit provides tools, guidance and a systematic approach for a wide range of organizations. 

SASA! has been adapted for implementation in many organisations and programmes:

• 18 in Uganda
• 27 around the Horn and in East and Southern Africa
• 3 in West Africa
• in Mongolia and Haiti
