STRIVE was well represented at ICAAP 2013, with a focus on work to address HIV stigma.

Dr Madhumita Das represented the Asia Regional Office of International Centre for Research on Women (ICRW-ARO) at the event. She noted that Ms Aradhana Johri of the National AIDS Control organization (NACO), in her address to the plenary, analysed how India has succeeded in reducing new infections among high risk populations by

  • involving community at the core of the programme
  • integrating and mainstreaming HIV within national health policy and services

Drawing on experiences from ICRW-ARO's pilot study with UNDP to address HIV-related stigmas, Fr Lancy D’Cruz from St Xavier's College, Ahmedabad, presented on Integrating a youth-based stigma and discrimination reduction curriculum in higher education.

A poster by Prakash Javalkar on another of the stigma-reducation case studies was selected for the Congress. Prakash attended ICAAP with a number of other colleagues from STRIVE partner, the Karnataka Health Promotion Trust (KHPT).
