Youth and Alcohol Study: PhotoVoice exhibition in Tanzania

STRIVE partner Tanzanian National Institute for Medical Research and Mwanza Intervention Trials Unit (NIMR Mwanza) held two photography exhibitions in Mwanza and Moshi.

After conducting PhotoVoice workshops in two study sites Nyakato ward in Mwanza and Pasua ward in Moshi municipal, the study’s youth participants showcased their images to invited community members. Participants invited two guests whom they wished to share their work with and the team invited local leaders in the community.

The events took place on 5 March 2016 (in Mwanza) and 7 May 2016 (in Moshi) and allowed space to openly discuss youth alcohol use.

Sharing and discussing the photos with visitors triggered some interesting conversation and thoughts about what community members encounter each day regarding youth alcohol use.

At the end of each exhibition, the study team leaders gave a brief talk about the project and thanked the participants and community members for their hard work and support.
