Structural Interventions - Kim Blankenship

What kinds of interventions to prevent HIV can be characterised as “structural”?

Where are the most promising opportunities for structural impact?

How can we assess whether there has been impact?

What are the challenges for working across disciplines and how can these be addressed or avoided?

Kim M. Blankenship has published widely on the concept and practice of structural change to prevent HIV. Her research includes studies of the impact of collective mobilisation for HIV prevention in sex workers in India. Now Professor and Chair in the Department of Sociology and Director of the Center on Health, Risk and Society at American University, Blankenship previously served on the faculty at Duke and Yale Universities.
