Soul City's health promotion campaign addresses alcohol-related violence and risk. This poster, presented by STRIVE affiliate Soul City, outlines the programme's advocacy for legislative change to reduce the availability of alcohol in South Africa.
The programme contributed to the establishment of an inter-ministerial task team on substance abuse, including representatives from ministries of social development, health, basic education and trade and industry. The policy areas reviewed by the task team include:
- drinking and driving
- raising the minimum drinking age
- banning alcohol advertising in print and electronic media
- applying a levy on the sale of alcohol products
- expanding health promotion activities
