This presentation was originally given by Gerry Mshana at the Global Alcohol Policy Conference in 2017. It presents findings from a qualitative study in Mwanza and Kilimanjaro regions Tanzania, that explored the use of liquor sachets among youth. 

Findings:

  • Viroba (liquor sachets) are among the top fove most consumed type of alcohol
  • Liquor sachets cost less than beer and have a high alcohol content¬†
  • The packaging for the drinks makes them easy to carry and to hide, allowing for drinking in public and at work
  • Viroba is widely available and easily accessible for all ages.¬†
