The diverse HIV prevention needs of sex workers - Parinita Bhattacharjee

This webinar describes the evolution of KHPT’s programming with female sex workers (FSW). It focuses on KHPT’s strategic shift from a largely biomedical approach to an integrated structural approach dealing with stigma, violence, collectivisation and building enabling environments for FSW.

The presentation illustrates:

  • The use of relevant evidence to make mid-course corrections to programme implementation,
  • Limitations for tackling connected issues such as intimate partner violence and reaching young sex workers early,
  • Addressing limitations through theory of change thinking and monitoring and evaluation.

Parinita Bhattacharjee is a Senior Technical Advisor with the University of Manitoba based at Nairobi. She has 17 years’ experience working with sex workers. Most recently, she has been leading an HIV prevention project with sex workers in Karnataka, India funded by Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Avahan project.
