Using data from 125 low- and middle-income countries, this paper shows a sustained increase in funding for HIV from public sources in all regions and explores the increasing importance of government financing.

Results showed that:

  • Domestic resources in low- and middle-income countries showed a threefold increase between 2000 and 2010
  • Public funding currently supports 50% of the global response to HIV AIDS, 41% of which comes from sub-Saharan Africa.
