STRIVE and AIDSTAR-One launch series of papers on structural approaches to HIV prevention

03 September 2013
Alexandra Hyde

STRIVE collaborated with US resource-portal AIDSTAR-One to produce position papers to define the current state of the field and priorities for future action.

To launch the series, the U.S. President's Emergency Plan for AIDS Relief (PEPFAR) will host a panel presentation on 11 September 2013 in Washington, DC.

The papers present academic and field-based perspectives on important conceptual, programmatic and evidentiary issues. They are available to download in full from STRIVE Resources.

Panel presentations and discussions will address the following questions:

  • What frameworks and definitions can be used to operationalise structural approaches to HIV prevention in diverse general population epidemics and settings?
  • What is the current status of structural programmatic experience?
  • What are priority areas for next steps in the field?

Panelists will include Lori Heise, Charlotte Watts, and Justin Parkhurst from STRIVE and Amelia Rock and Helen Cornman of AIDSTAR-One. Timothy Mah, USAID Senior HIV Prevention Advisor, will moderate the meeting.
