Leveraging global leadership in 2013

This year offers strategic opportunities to ensure that issues of gender violence and HIV remain high on the international political agenda.

In 2013, the UK government takes on the G8 presidency. In April, the UK will host G8 foreign ministers to discuss priorities, including violence against women:

In particular I will be focusing on the Preventing Sexual Violence Initiative, a personal priority for me during the UK’s G8 Presidency and beyond.

Meanwhile, the 57th session of the UN Commission for the Status of Women (CSW) will gather government representatives and NGOs in New York in March 2013. The priority theme this year is the elimination and prevention of all forms of violence against women and girls.

With these opportunities ahead, STRIVE will continue to support policy and practice from global to local level, through research and interventions to tackle gender inequality and other underlying drivers of HIV.

We look forward to sharing ideas and wish you a happy and fulfilling 2013.
