On International Women's Day, the Centre for Maternal, Adolescent, Reproductive and Child Health published an interview with STRIVE Co-Research Director, Mitzy Gafos, about HIV amongst women and the challenges they face adhering to PrEP.

"STRIVE partners in South Africa and Tanzania are conducting the EMPOWER trial to assess whether it is feasible, acceptable and safe to offer oral pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) as part of a combination HIV prevention package that addresses GBV, stigma and HIV in adolescent girls and young women aged 16-24 years."

The blog, written by Priyanka Rajendram, aims to:

  • explain the work of STRIVE
  • raise awareness of what PrEP is and how it works
  • discuss PrEP trial results, including reasons for low adherence among women
  • describe where PrEP is currently available
  • share details of health promotion activities that raise awareness of PrEP in the UK
