DFID

STRIVE is a Research Programme Consortium funded by UKaid from the Department for International Development (DFID).

Created to meet the many challenges of tackling world poverty, DFID is committed to supporting countries to reach the United Nations’ Millenium Development Goals (MDGs). To this end, DFID funds STRIVE to produce evidence on:

  • the structural drivers of the HIV epidemic and the pathways between them
  • structural approaches to HIV prevention in high-prevalence settings.

In partnership with DFID, STRIVE addresses key questions, including:

  • Do responses to poor livelihood options and poverty (MDG1) and gender inequality (MDG3), for instance, make standard HIV programmes more effective (MDG5)?
  • What potential synergies and economies can be obtained by better integrating policies on social welfare, health and development?
